On the 17th July 2024, women from around Melbourne and interstate, gathered at the Hyatt in Scoresby to share stories, listen, encourage, support, capture and reflect the recovery journey after family violence

Over a 2 days workshop, the women were lavished whilst participating in the inaugural Share Your Story Art project.

10 women referred to as the hearts hand wrote their stories

10 artists referred to as the diamonds listened, asked questions and began to reflect the many dimensions of the women’s stories onto canvas

They were randomly paired together with a set of playing cards using the suits of hearts and diamonds

3 photographers also captured the contributing women through portrait and action photography

Black and White came from my heart of knowing the healing power of sharing story and a desire to showcase that the recovery journey, seldom talked about or supported long term, is not simply black and white.

We don’t simply leave, we don't just get over it, its not just us caught up in the story, there are layers and layers of complexity during the abusive relationship and after leaving.
